We'll meet at 11:45 and ride at Noon
2:15 PM
End location: Cartlandia
This city staff-led ride will explore Portland’s Johnson Creek. Portland’s Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) has been working for more than 25 years to reduce flooding and improve habitat and recreation opportunities along Johnson Creek. Their latest effort--the Springwater Wetlands and Floodplain Restoration Project--is a prime example of this. In additional to restoring 30 acres of wetlands and habitat in the Johnson Creek floodplain, BES and the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) partnered to build a bicycle and pedestrian path that connects the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood to the Springwater Corridor Trail near SE 115th Ave. This ride will cruise down the Springwater Corridor to take a “ribbon-cutting” ride on the new path. We’ll view a few other truly impressive water management projects on the way, hear briefly from knowledgeable speakers and then end at the Cartlandia food cart pod for talk, food and drink. This will be a fun, picturesque and informative ride showcasing the benefits of city bureaus working together to create great projects that serve Portlanders.
