  • Update Although there’s a huge issue with Danny Parks and Matt Landon at the moment , the meeting isn’t about them personally , but about how we should communicate, react, inform when we’ve bad actors in our midst.

Title says it all. Let’s have first of many meetings about this issue. There will be some moderation so we don’t devolve into cross talking. The meeting is meant as an open forum and we can adjust how we do this in the future. Things we need to consider: A mass means of publicly available information regarding bad actors (riders and leaders need a way to know who is putting riders at risk), A common board or group or meeting to report and discuss issues openly (we need more than a ‘sorry you’re experiencing that’ system), A means of repair and amends for folks who’ve caused problems (accepting people have bad times instead of being a bad faith actor means riders need a way to acknowledge and move forward from their mistakes), These are some of my own personal thoughts but the meeting is going to be open to hearing suggestions and advice on what to do when we as a community find ourselves at risk. What happens every summer is there’s a rider or few, who’s causing problems. Those riders causing issues get shunned from weekly rides (like TNR/FNR/MM). Those riders can then slip into the one of once a year rides and the ride leader might not know the risk they’re exposing people too because there isn’t a mass communication system in place right now. Here are some personal examples I’ve experienced leading rides, Being followed home (at least 15 times), Car windshield smashed after earlier confronting a banned rider, Having someone demand I hand over my cellphone so they could see my social media logins, An anti trans person coming to my home during a mental health crisis and trying to break in and banging on my door and window, twice in the same day and I had to call the police twice. (ACAB). Dealing with multiple anti trans bigots which has resulted in harassment and stalking, Death threats and threats of violence, civil conspiracy by a anti naked hearts clique, Online smear campaigns by different folks, Unwanted touch and communications…… Being compared to someone at the Nuremberg trials by a fragile ego person who was offended by a song, Ugh and this isn’t by one person but many over years….. At the moment we’ve only the recourse of reporting to shift COC which at its best can only limit someone’s access to listing on the calendar. If a predator isn’t hosting rides then there’s no ability to alter their behaviour and it’s left to ride leaders to take the brunt of the blowback from asking someone who has an issue with boundaries to respect boundaries. So let’s have a meeting and talk about what we all think is needed going forward and how to adjust and change based upon what we all experience. At the moment, gossip is the mechanism we are all using to alert each other but that’s so adjacent to the rumor mill campaigns it’s not enough. This won’t be a ride as such.
