Shift has built some easily-transportable bike racks which are available to rent with advance arrangements. The rental program is a fundraiser for Shift, and there is a suggested donation (or rental fee, if your organization is unable to make donations) of $10 per bike rack.
The (7) racks can accommodate about 70 bikes total, or (10) bikes per rack. The racks consist of lightweight tubing which is intuitive and simple to assemble and disassemble. Collapsed, the racks are one 11’ long group of tubes that is about 1.5’ in diameter and weighs around 70 pounds, plus one bundle of 3.5’ tubing that is about 1.5’ in diameter and weighs around 20 pounds.
When assembled, you get 70’ of bike parking in 7 “large sawhorse” shapes.
This is 1/7th of the bike parking setup demonstrating some different placement methods–the seat hang, the underwheel tuck, and the lean:
We normally only rent these out for a few days at a time (such as over a weekend), and you must retrieve them from (and return them to) a location in NE Portland near the 60th Ave MAX station, that is open by appointment. Delivery is not available.
To start your rental inquiry, or for any questions, please email for more info. We recommend sending your inquiry at least 2 weeks in advance in order to allow for volunteer response time.
