We are on the cusp of a wild time ride where changes in weather patterns plus upheavals in the energy and transit sectors will affect our supply lines to food and products. We face transitions, then, into altered lifestyles. This is surely a time to mark where our lives are now for the benefit of our future selves to reflect on our celebrations, joys and woes, and triumphs! Throughout PedalPalooza, please consider what you would like to contribute to the Time Capsule 2012. Items will be collected at the 2008 MCBF. (So set your time dials for the year 2008, and ride the PedalPalooza timeline.)

Experience the seemy underbelly of a Portland whose seemy underbelly is rapidly becoming not as seemy. What really goes on behind the filthy doors of The Trap? Does Smokey's really live up to it's name? Does Mama Maria's really have "the best Italian food in town"? (Actually, we won't answer that one... trust me.) Live the strange but true lifestyle of a "Portland local" for a few hours. Cut a swath of pinball and pbr through the heart of Felony Flats. Smores in Mt. Scott Park after last call.

Do Anytime during PedalPalooza and beyond!
Bike to a gas station. Take a picture of yourself with your bike beside the gas prices. Make a hard copy of your picture and bring it to MCBF on June 28, 2008. Or if you are in another part of the world, then post it to: http://www.shift2bikes.org/gasprice/ It's getting exciting now. Think of everything we've accomplished. With the decline of oil supplies and the rise of gas prices, we will view the collapse of financial history. One step closer to economic equilibrium...

What's better than riding bikes on a summer evening and having a picnic afterwards? The ride will be a casual one traversing approx. 3-5 miles and end in a mystery public "park" setting. The catch is the "park" will be a lesser-known and/or out of the way spot. Picnic will be potluck style, so please bring food and drink to share (preferably vegetarian/vegan). Bringing your own cup, plate, and utensils also recommended. You can also sneak into the co-op for supplies.

Tip your helmet and wave your little red book as we tour the past and present hotbeds of Portland’s pro-worker activism. Inspired by how crummy our economy is these days, this ride will connect us with folks working together to build a community where people matter more than profits. They say that the revolution never ends, but this ride has a start and a finish. We'll meet up at Liberty Hall just SW of Vancouver and Freemont and wrap it up at the Red and Black Cafe on SE 12th & Oak (10 miles total.) Helmets are not required, but the communists would want you to ride safely.

When you were a kid you probably biked, and it was easy. You did it barefoot. With an ice cream in one hand. No sweat. Now you look around you and think "Biking? Around all these cars? Scary!" Biking in the city doesn't have to be scary, despite all the cars. In this workshop we'll go over the skills that will make you safer and more comfortable on the road. We'll also cover basic bike laws, necessary gear, and route finding. No actual bicycles or roads involved however - just bring your questions, and we'll send you off with maps and newfound confidence that you can do it.
